Taking to social media platform X, Sarma highlighted the significance of the dispatches, which began supplying 50,000 tonnes of potatoes to PepsiCo’s factories in Assam.

PepsiCo India’s substantial investment of ₹778 crore in Assam in September 2023 paved the way for this collaboration.

Expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for about 500 individuals, the plant underscores PepsiCo’s commitment to supporting regional farmers by leveraging advanced technology and quality seeds.

With a focus on sourcing potatoes for Lay’s, PepsiCo’s flagship brand, the plant is projected to drive the demand for cold storage facilities, with an estimated capacity of 60,000 tonnes shortly.

Eugene Willemsen, CEO for Africa, Middle East & South Asia at PepsiCo, stressed the importance of expanding capacity in India, a rapidly growing market for the company since its inception in 1989.
