Assam, October 4: The All Assam Motor Transport (AAMTA) has declared a for indefinite transport strike or “Chakka Band“, demanding for a hike in bus fare.
The All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) has said they have been forced to take the step due to COVID-19 and followed by a nationwide lockdown. They faced a tremendous amount of losses through the entire period of lockdown, and even after the lockdown was relaxed due to the social distancing norms the number of passengers is very less.
The motor Transport body further Alleged that the Government has increased prices of many essential commodities, including petrol and diesel.
Even after the association repeated requests and plea, the government has turned a blind eye to their demand.
A member of the association says “The fuel price has increased.The Government ordered to carry 50 per cent passengers. We should be allowed to carry 100 per cent passengers or the fares must be hiked“, said a member of the association.
According to reports, the association claimed that buses, Trackers, e-rickshaws etc. have been providing services amidst the pandemic by carrying 50% passenger, which is a major loss for them. Chakka Band
