Mizoram Counting

1. The second round of randomisation for counting officials was completed in Mizoram on Sunday.
2. The final round for the allotment of counting tables will take place at 5 AM on Monday.
3. Election to the 40-member Mizoram state legislative assembly was held on November 7, with over 80% voter turnout.


Aizawl, Dec 03: Second round of randomisation of counting officials, who are to undertake counting of votes on Monday, was completed in all the district headquarters of Mizoram on Sunday and the third and final round of randomisation of the officials for allotment of counting tables will be held at 5 AM on Monday.

Polling for the election to the 40-member Mizoram state legislative assembly was conducted on November 7 when over 80 per cent of votes were polled.

Around 2,780 officials comprising Returning Officers, Assistant Returning officers, Counting Supervisors, Counting Assistants, Micro-observers and other supporting staff will be engaged in the counting of votes. There will also be 1,276 presiding officers of the polling stations who headed the polling stations on poll day be present during the counting.

Counting of votes will be conducted in 13 counting centres, housing 40 counting halls for 40 state assembly constituencies. There will be 396 counting tables in the 40 counting halls. There will also be a counting supervisor, a counting assistant and a micro-observer in each of the counting tables, while 40 Observers appointed by the Election Commission of India will monitor the counting halls.

There are 174 candidates whose fates have been sealed by the electorate on November 7. The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Congress and the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) contested all 40 seats while the BJP and the AAP contested 23 and 4 constituencies respectively. There are 27 independent candidates.

Political analysts predict that the main contestants will be the MNF and the ZPM, while the Congress and the saffron party are also predicted to win some seats.
