Kohima, Oct 27: The much-anticipated Hornbill Festival is just around the corner, and it’s a date you won’t want to miss. Celebrating the vibrant cultural heritage of Nagaland, this dazzling festival draws inquisitive travelers from all corners of the globe. Set to kick off on December 1 and run through December 10, 2023, this year’s event promises to be spectacular.

Nagaland, often referred to as the ‘Land of Festivals,’ is renowned for its diverse celebrations. Among these, the Hornbill Festival stands out as a grand spectacle orchestrated by the State Tourism of Arts and Culture Department, Government of Nagaland.

Named after the revered hornbill bird, which holds special significance among the Naga tribe, the Hornbill Festival is aptly dubbed the “Festival of Festivals.” This gathering brings together 17 traditional Naga tribes in a vibrant showcase of intercultural harmony. With an action-packed schedule, visitors can look forward to an unforgettable experience that delves into age-old tribal traditions and celebrations.

Explorers will have the opportunity to step back in time as they explore the intricately designed tribal huts, adorned with drums, gongs, costumes, and wooden carvings. All of these captivating displays are set within the enchanting Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, a short 10-kilometer journey from Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. This festival has not only become an international sensation but also a symbol of unity among the people of Nagaland.

A key highlight of the festival is the Traditional Naga Morungs Exhibition, where exquisite floral arrangements take center stage.

  1. Festival Passes: Daily passes are available for INR 20-30.
  2. Camera Fee: INR 50 (if applicable).
  3. Indian tourists require an inner line permit from the local government.
  4. Foreign tourists must register at the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) within 24 hours of arrival.
