Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in congratulating Advani, highlighted the veteran’s monumental contribution to India’s development.

He described Advani as one of the most respected statesmen, citing his journey from grassroots work to serving as Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, and I&B Minister.

Born in Karachi and later settling in Bombay after the Partition, LK Advani joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the age of fourteen in 1941.

In 1951, he became a member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the political precursor to the BJP, founded by Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Advani served in the Rajya Sabha for four terms from 1970 to 1989.

In 1990, LK Advani initiated the Ram Rath Yatra, a journey advocating for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

The yatra began in Somnath, Gujarat, and concluded in Ayodhya, gaining widespread support. Following this, in the 1991 general elections, the BJP emerged as the second-largest party in the parliament after the Congress, marking a significant shift in national politics.
