Imphal, July 18: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has confirmed the collection of biometric details from 24 individuals of Myanmar origin in the Tengnoupal district.

This action is part of a broader initiative to identify illegal immigrants from Myanmar.

A joint team comprising state police, Assam Rifles personnel, and government officials searched Govajang village, where they recorded biometric data for these individuals.

Singh announced on Facebook that the operation, led by officials including Md. Ejaj from Tengnoupal and SDO Moreh, aims to re-verify and identify residents in the area.

Following a previous halt due to violence, the identification process resumed in July. Singh expressed appreciation to security personnel and officials for their efforts.

He also mentioned that future biometric exercises will continue in Moreh and surrounding areas. Manipur’s 398 km border with Myanmar remains largely unfenced, with ongoing efforts to secure it.
