Imphal, Sep 25: Manipur Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar raised concerns on Wednesday regarding security advisor Kuldiep Singh’s claim that 900 Kuki militants have entered the state, causing panic in the villages surrounding Imphal Valley.

Demanding clarification on this assertion, Lokeshwar questioned the actions taken to mitigate the potential threat posed by these militants.

During his visit to the Khundrakpam constituency, he stated, “Singh’s claim has caused unrest in the peripheral areas of Imphal Valley. He must clarify the basis of his assertions and outline the measures in place to counter the militants’ entry. Villagers should not be left to live in fear.”

He urged the government to take swift action, emphasizing that the responsibility for protecting the villages lies with the authorities, not the residents.

On Friday, Singh announced that security forces are on high alert following intelligence reports about the entry of 900 Kuki militants, who are believed to be targeting peripheral villages, with potential attacks expected around September 28.

He assured that intelligence has been shared among various security agencies and that proactive measures are being communicated to remote areas to thwart any militant activities.

Singh also confirmed that the hill districts of Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Ukhrul, Kamjong, and Pherzawl have been placed on high alert.
