Shillong, April 04: Amidst the recent violence in Ichamati, Meghalaya’s Deputy Chief Minister responsible for Home Affairs, Prestone Tynsong, has extended an invitation to the proscribed militant organization, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), for peace negotiations.

Tynsong emphasized that the government remains open to dialogue with the HNLC, urging them to reconsider their stance and engage in talks for the greater good of the region.

However, Tynsong made it clear that if the HNLC chooses not to participate in peace talks, the government will uphold the law of the land to ensure peace and stability in the state.

Regarding the recent IED blast, Tynsong stated that investigations are ongoing to ascertain if there are more individuals involved in the incident, with the police handling the matter diligently.

In response to the escalating tension in Ichamati, Tynsong cautioned NGOs against exacerbating the situation with inflammatory remarks and media announcements.

He revealed that two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the recent violence in Ichamati, emphasizing that NGOs, whether local or non-tribal, should refrain from adding fuel to the fire.

Asserting the supremacy of the law, Tynsong reiterated that the government is committed to upholding justice and ensuring that legal procedures are followed impartially.

He urged all stakeholders to cooperate with the authorities to maintain peace and order in the state.
