Police drugs

Shillong, Sept 15: Meghalaya Police have made a substantial seizure of illicit drugs in the East Jaintia Hills district. Law enforcement officials confiscated 48 boxes of heroin, with an estimated street value of Rs 5.5 crore. This operation marks another major victory in the state’s relentless fight against the drug trade.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma took to Twitter to commend the police force’s dedication and their unwavering commitment to combating the drug menace. He noted that the traffickers had attempted to alter their modus operandi to evade law enforcement, but the vigilant East Jaintia Hills police were quick to thwart their efforts.

As a result of their diligent work, two interstate traffickers were apprehended, and evidence of their illegal activities was seized, including two vehicles.

Sangma emphasized the importance of this ongoing campaign against drugs, particularly in protecting the state’s youth from the devastating consequences of drug addiction. He pledged that the fight against drug trafficking would persist unabated until this menace was completely eradicated from Meghalaya.

This recent success follows a previous major drug bust by Meghalaya police on September 3, in which a drug peddler was arrested in the East Jaintia Hills district. During the operation, a staggering 10.16 kilograms of Crystal Meth tablets were confiscated, with an estimated street value of Rs 15 crore. These operations represent a strong commitment on the part of Meghalaya law enforcement to tackle drug-related issues head-on.
