Aizawl, Jan 27: Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati asserted the state government’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against smuggling.

Speaking at the Republic Day function in Aizawl after hoisting the tricolor at Lammual, he highlighted the rigorous efforts of the Excise and Narcotics Department in combating drug trafficking and abuse.

Stringent measures have been implemented to curb the illegal smuggling of areca nuts, with a focus on enforcement by law agencies and the government. Governor Kambhampati emphasized the need to address malpractices at police check-gates, underlining the government’s determination to eradicate corruption.

Emphasizing the role of good governance in reducing irregularities and fostering self-respect among citizens, Kambhampati outlined the state government’s commitment to eliminating corruption comprehensively and effectively.

The mission to eradicate corruption from public life and government services will be executed with heightened enthusiasm, he stated.

Looking ahead, the governor outlined the state government’s five-year focus on responsible and responsive administration, sustainable development, support for industries, social security, and equity, youth welfare, and environmental protection.

Fiscal consolidation, prudent fiscal management, austerity measures, and resource management will be instrumental in improving the state’s financial condition, he added.

Agriculture and allied sectors will receive paramount importance, considering that more than half of the state’s population relies on them.

The government aims to make agriculture both production-centric and income-centric, with a separate allocation of funds in the budget targeting farmers engaged in agriculture and allied activities.

Governor Kambhampati announced plans to establish remunerative prices for crucial commercial crops such as ginger, turmeric, chillies, and broomsticks. Procurement will commence in the current financial year, with an earmarked amount of Rs 110 crore for this purpose.

The overall goal is to enhance the economic well-being of the state through fiscal prudence, strategic resource management, and targeted support for key sectors.
