Aizawl, Sept 25: In a heartwarming gesture to mark World Deaf Day, Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati played a pivotal role in distributing over 320 hearing aids during a modest ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan Durbar Hall in Aizawl. This significant initiative aimed to empower students with hearing impairments and foster a more inclusive society.

The hearing aids, totaling 322 sets, were procured by the Deen Dayal Sravana Foundation (DDSF), Andhra Pradesh, through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions from COAL India Limited. The estimated value of this generous contribution exceeded Rs 20,000 per set, with the total cost for the students amounting to an impressive Rs 6.4 crore.

Expressing his deep appreciation, Governor Kambhampati extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Deen Dayal Sravana Foundation (DDSF) for their valuable CSR services, made possible through the support of COAL India Limited.

He also acknowledged the unwavering commitment and diligent efforts of Mizoram’s Health Minister, Dr. R. Lalthangliana, and the dedicated Health Department officials in identifying students with hearing impairments in the state.

During the ceremony, Governor Kambhampati called for continuous support from society for individuals facing hearing impairments. He emphasized the importance of available provisions for assisting people with hearing impairments, particularly through the Disabled Persons for Purchasing/Fitting of Aids/Appliances (ADIP) program under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Furthermore, he underscored how Zoram Medical College in Falkawn, as an empanelled institute, would actively engage in advancing this noble initiative in the near future.

In essence, the distribution of hearing aids on World Deaf Day in Mizoram served as a beacon of hope and a testament to the collective efforts of individuals and organizations working together to create a more inclusive and accessible world for all.
