Kohima, May 23: The first day of total lockdown imposed by Kohima Village Council (KVC) in all areas under its jurisdiction till May 31 evoked a positive response. Roads wore a deserted look as there was no movement of vehicles and people. Shops and business establishments also remained closed.
Kohima Village Youth president Ruokuoneituo Phewhuo told Nagaland Post that the organisation did not deploy volunteers to enforce the lockdown. He said citizens heeded the call of KVC and extended cooperation by choosing to remain indoors.
He said a few of the members inspected the area/colony and Khels and saw a positive response. KVYO president exuded confidence that the citizens would cooperate till the lockdown was lifted.
Phewhuo urged all responsible to support the KVC call and strictly adhere to COVID-19 SOPs even at home. KVYO has set up a COVID helpline for assistance regarding essential commodities and medical supplies for those who were in need.
In this regard, Phewhuo said any person could call 7640077276, 8732896363 or 9774418143 for any assistance.
Meanwhile, police personnel manning the town area were sceptical over the movement of vehicles with car passes issued by different department and agencies.

It was informed that there were too many officials on duty despite the government’s directive that the core group was supposed to be constituted to function the offices. However, the officials informed that people were taking undue advantage of the car passes and moving around for personal work.
People should not move about except in case of unavoidable circumstances, police officials said, adding that people and “officials on duty” should also own responsibility towards their family and society.
