Sikkim goes for complete lockdown for a week; Educational institutions to remain closed till August
Following Arunachal Pradesh, the north-eastern state of Sikkim has announced a week-long complete lockdown in the state in light of the recent surge of COVID positive cases on Monday.
The last Indian state to contract COVID-19 is to go on complete lockdown with effect from 21st July (from 6 am) to 27th July (6 am), a notification issued by the Sikkim Chief Secretary, SC Gupta cited.
35 new COVID positive cases were reported in the state on Monday.

The notification has listed several guidelines for the shutdown, which will include a closure of all government offices, shops, markets, commercial establishments, institutions, factories except those in essential services. Movement of people and vehicles will also be restricted within the state except for those involved in essential services.
However, all the concerned individuals on duty during this period must carry with them deployment letter or respective ID cards which they shall be liable to provide when demanded by police personnel on duty.
The Home Department further announced that all educational institutions, coaching centres will remain closed until August 31st, 2020.
Night curfew shall be enforced in the entire state from 7.30 pm in the night till 6 am.
The state has reported a total of 305 positive cases with a total number of 213 active cases till Monday.
