Decision Not to Contest Lok Sabha Election

Sonia Gandhi opted not to contest the Lok Sabha election and instead filed her nomination for the Rajya Sabha election from Rajasthan.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to the people of Raibareli, the constituency she represented for five consecutive terms, Gandhi expressed her deep connection with the region.

She recalled the historical significance of Raibareli in her family’s political journey, highlighting the electoral successes of her father-in-law, Firoze Gandhi, and mother-in-law, Indira Gandhi.

Sonia Gandhi cited age and health concerns as the primary reasons for her decision not to contest from Raibareli.

Controversy Over Asset Disclosure

However, Sonia Gandhi’s nomination form has sparked controversy, with the BJP raising concerns about incomplete disclosure of her immovable assets.

BJP leader Yogendra Singh Tanwar wrote to the Returning Officer of the Election of Council of States (Rajya Sabha), alleging that Gandhi had failed to fully disclose the specifics of her share of property in Italy.

Tanwar pointed out crucial omissions, such as the exact location of the property and the percentage share in the ownership, urging a thorough investigation into the matter.
