Adhir elections

1. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury declares independence in contesting upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Bengal.
2. Chowdhury criticizes Mamata Banerjee, calling her opportunistic.
3. Reminds Mamata Banerjee that she came to power in Bengal with Congress’s support.

Kolkata, Jan 23: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury declared on Tuesday that the party would not seek the support of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, stating that Congress is capable of contesting independently.

Chowdhury accused Mamata Banerjee of being opportunistic and reminded her that it was with Congress’s support that she came to power in Bengal.

This statement comes after reports suggested that Trinamool Congress, a partner in the INDIA bloc alliance with Congress, is likely to field candidates in all 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal.

On Saturday, Chowdhury had criticized Trinamool, emphasizing his past victories against the party.

In early January, Chowdhury had also expressed dissatisfaction with Mamata Banerjee regarding seat-sharing in Bengal for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Reacting to reports that Trinamool had offered two seats to Congress, he asserted that Congress wouldn’t beg for seats.

The INDIA bloc alliance, comprising Trinamool Congress and Congress, was expected to finalize seat-sharing arrangements for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal.

However, Chowdhury’s recent statements indicate a growing rift between the two parties in the state.
