Amit Shah Mizoram

Aizawl, Oct 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will step in for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has canceled his scheduled campaign trip to Mamit in poll-bound Mizoram on October 30.

While Amit Shah will substitute for PM Modi, the specific date for his campaigning has not been decided, according to state BJP media convener Johny Lalthanpuia. Lalthanpuia did not provide any reasons for Modi’s visit cancellation.

Another prominent BJP leader and union minister, Nitin Gadkari, is expected to campaign in the northeastern state on Monday for the November 7 assembly elections, as mentioned by Lalthanpuia.

Shah’s visit will encompass Mamit and the southern region of the state. The BJP is focusing on securing the votes of linguistic minorities like the Chakma, Bru, Mara, and Lai communities residing in the southern part of the state.

In comparison to the previous assembly elections in 2018, where the BJP contested 39 seats, the party has put forward 23 candidates this time. BJP President JP Nadda unveiled the party’s manifesto on Friday, which includes promises of 33 percent reservation for women in government jobs and a resolution to the long-standing border dispute with Assam, among other commitments.
