Shillong, Jan 18: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled for a significant three-day visit to Assam and Meghalaya starting January 18. The visit is marked by a series of events highlighting Shah’s commitment to the development and security of the Northeastern region of India.

On the first day, Amit Shah will inaugurate a cyber security operational centre at the headquarters of the Assam Rifles in Shillong, Meghalaya. This underscores the central government’s emphasis on bolstering the digital security infrastructure of the armed forces, aligning with the evolving security landscape.

The following day, Shah will chair the 71st plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) at the state convention centre in Shillong. The agenda includes a comprehensive review of the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), emphasizing the government’s commitment to harnessing space technology for regional development.

Amit Shah will participate in the 61st Raising Day celebrations of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Tezpur, Assam, demonstrating support for the paramilitary force.

Additionally, he is expected to attend the 13th triennial conference of the All Bathou Mahasabha at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district, showcasing the government’s encouragement for diverse cultural institutions.

In the evening, Shah will be present at the passing out parade of 2,551 Assam Police commandos at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. This event reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the law enforcement capabilities in the region.

During his visit, the Home Minister will launch a book titled ‘Assam’s Braveheart Lachit Barphukan’ at Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati. Additionally, he will inaugurate the Brahmaputra Riverfront in the city, signaling the government’s focus on enhancing urban infrastructure.

Amit Shah’s comprehensive itinerary during the three-day visit reaffirms the government’s dedication to addressing security concerns, fostering cultural engagement, and promoting developmental initiatives in the Northeastern states.
