Guwahati, March 31: BJP leader Ranjit Kumar Dass delivered a pointed response to recent remarks by AIUDF leader Badruddin Ajmal regarding remarriage.

Dass emphasized that Ajmal’s ability to remarry has been restricted following the abolition of triple talaq by the Union Government.

Speaking in Bajali, Dass highlighted a notable trend of minority voters supporting the BJP, attributing this shift to Prime Minister Modi’s efforts in abolishing triple talaq. He asserted that this move has liberated minority women from oppressive marital practices, influencing their political preferences.

Dass linked Ajmal’s comments on marriage to the context of triple talaq, suggesting that the AIUDF leader’s prospects for remarriage have been impacted by the legislative changes initiated by Modi’s administration.

Responding to Assam Pradesh Congress Committee chief Bhupen Borah’s aspirations to become the state’s chief minister in 2026, Dass expressed skepticism, implying a lack of popular support for Congress.

He metaphorically remarked that Congress has been sidelined by the people, indicating a need for substantial efforts to revive its electoral prospects.

In contrast, Dass underscored the enduring popularity of the BJP among the electorate, highlighting a significant disparity in public sentiment between the two parties.

Additionally, Dass questioned Sarbhog MLA Manoranjan Talukdar’s understanding of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), suggesting a potential lack of knowledge or awareness regarding this contentious legislation.
