Guwahati, March 15: The Vigilance Cell of the Chief Minister’s office in Assam has taken a significant step in the ongoing corruption case by filing a chargesheet against Sukanya Bora, a former Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer, on allegations of embezzlement of MP funds designated for local area development (MPLAD).

Sukanya Bora was arrested on January 18, 2024, and the chargesheet, comprising a substantial 1133 pages, was submitted to the Special Court, Assam, under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, alongside 14 others involved in the case.

This development underscores the state’s commitment to combating corruption and ensuring accountability among public servants.

The chargesheet follows a thorough investigation into allegations of corruption and unlawful enrichment during Bora’s tenure as the Additional Deputy Commissioner cum IC District Development Commissioner of Kamrup Metro.

The investigation uncovered that Bora possessed assets totaling Rs 8,14,18,533.54, which were disproportionate to her known sources of income, marking a remarkable increase of 786.26 per cent.
