Guwahati, March 16: Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced a significant stride forward, highlighting the crucial role of implementing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, (CAA) in unlocking the biometrics of around 27 lakh individuals in the state.

These biometrics had remained frozen during the exhaustive National Register of Citizens (NRC) updating process, rendering them unable to obtain Aadhaar cards.

“I will engage in discussions with All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and other stakeholders, aiming for a resolution post-elections,” stated the CM during a press conference in Guwahati on Friday.

He stressed the clarity offered by the CAA implementation, offering a pathway to address this longstanding issue.
