Guwahati, Feb 15: In the wake of significant political developments in Assam, with two Congress MLAs expressing support for the government, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on February 15 that several others from the Congress are eager to join the BJP.

Sarma mentioned that many Congress leaders wish to join the BJP, particularly those who are vocal in the media.

However, he noted that there is limited space within the BJP for all potential defectors, but efforts are underway to accommodate them gradually.

Responding to queries about the need for an opposition presence in the state, Sarma asserted that when the ruling government is performing well, there is no necessity for opposition.

He praised the BJP government’s transformative initiatives in Assam, suggesting that the Congress’s role in the state is redundant unless the ruling party engages in misconduct, prompting opposition.

Sarma alleged that numerous Congress leaders who frequently appear in the media eventually join or desire to join the BJP. He assured that gradually, many from the Congress would transition to the BJP, as efforts are being made to facilitate their integration systematically.

Addressing the prevalent culture of protests and donations in Assam, Sarma emphasized that the state can only progress when such practices are phased out.

He envisioned Assam emerging as one of the most progressive states in the nation once these tendencies are abandoned.

Sarma urged the Congress to halt internal conflicts and concentrate on the state’s development instead.
