Kohima, Feb 15: Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio has called for united efforts from all stakeholders to address the declining quality of education in government school, despite the presence of highly qualified teachers.

Speaking at a function in Meriema, Rio emphasized the need to enhance skill-based education to improve employability among Naga youths, despite the state’s commendable literacy rate of nearly 80 per cent.

Rio highlighted the collective failure to maintain the quality of education and urged officials from the school education department and other stakeholders to collaborate in elevating the sector’s standards.

He emphasized the importance of restoring government schools to their former glory and stressed the ongoing efforts to rationalize teacher allocations across schools.

As part of the rationalization process, Rio outlined plans to transfer surplus teachers from overstaffed schools to those with fewer staff, while also considering the closure of schools with no student enrollments.

He appealed to village councils and leaders to support the education department in implementing these measures, aiming to streamline resources and enhance educational outcomes across the state.
