Canada, April 09: The captivating spectacle of a total solar eclipse enthralled residents across Mexico, the US, and Canada as darkness descended upon cities during a celestial event on Monday.
With its landfall on Mexico’s Pacific coast in Mazatlan at 11:37 pm IST, this marked North America’s first total eclipse since 2017.
During a total solar eclipse, the moon positions itself directly between the Earth and the sun, casting a shadow that entirely obscures the sun.
This phenomenon was witnessed across North America, with the period of totality lasting up to four minutes, contingent on the observer’s location.
While a partial eclipse, where the moon covers only a portion of the sun, unfolded across most of the continental US, beyond the path of totality.
An estimated 44 million people reside within the path of totality, and this particular eclipse garnered substantial interest due to its trajectory across more densely populated regions compared to previous occurrences.
Approximately 31.6 million individuals had the opportunity to witness the event without needing to travel outside their cities.

Torreon in Mexico emerged as a prime location for eclipse enthusiasts, offering the longest duration of totality.
Across a 4,000 km expanse from Mexico’s Pacific Coast through Texas and across 14 other US states into Canada, people eagerly awaited the celestial phenomenon, traversing great distances to experience it firsthand.
Regrettably, the solar eclipse was not visible from the Indian subcontinent. Celestial enthusiasts in India must wait until May 21, 2031, to witness a “ring of fire” solar eclipse, visible from numerous cities across the country, particularly in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Until then, the memories of this extraordinary cosmic event will linger, reminding us of the awe-inspiring wonders of the universe.
