Imphal, April 09: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the remarkable strides made in stabilizing the tumultuous region of Manipur, crediting the collaborative endeavors of both the central and state governments for this positive transformation.

PM Modi underscored the dedicated allocation of resources and administrative machinery towards addressing the longstanding conflict in Manipur.

PM Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving the conflict, emphasizing the deployment of top-notch resources and administrative structures to tackle the situation effectively.

He credited the timely interventions of both the Government of India and the Government of Manipur for the discernible improvement in the state’s situation.

Drawing attention to Home Minister Amit Shah‘s proactive engagement during the peak of the conflict, PM Modi highlighted Shah’s visit to Manipur and extensive consultations with various stakeholders as pivotal in facilitating conflict resolution.

He emphasized the consistent support extended by the central government to the state government and emphasized the ongoing process of relief and rehabilitation.

The Opposition has persistently criticized PM Modi and his government over the Manipur issue, holding them accountable for the tense situation prevailing in the state since the outbreak of ethnic violence in May last year.

Last year, the Opposition tabled a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led government at the Centre, pressing for a statement from PM Modi on the Manipur situation.

Responding to these criticisms, PM Modi assured Parliament of the collaborative efforts underway between the Centre and the state government to restore peace in Manipur.

He affirmed that the entire country stands in solidarity with Manipur and reaffirmed the joint commitment of the Centre and state governments to reinstating peace in the region.

Since the outbreak of ethnic clashes between the Kukis and Meiteis in Manipur on May 3 last year, nearly 200 lives have been lost.

The violence erupted following a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ organized in the hill districts of Manipur to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
