Assam students

Guwahati, Oct 31: In a shocking incident, a group of female students from Assam was allegedly molested by a Bihar police constable while on a train journey. The incident took place during their return trip on the North East Express near Kishanganj railway station. These students were part of a group of 14 from Biswanath College who had embarked on an educational tour of Delhi and Rajasthan.

According to the victims, the Bihar police constable, identified as Naveen Kumar Singh, assaulted some of the female students while they were asleep. When the girls woke up and raised the alarm, fellow passengers apprehended the constable. Despite reporting the matter to railway officials, the students were asked to disembark at Kishanganj railway station, and no action was taken against the accused constable.

Frustrated with the lack of response, the students decided to leave the train at New Jalpaiguri railway station, taking the constable with them with the intention of handing him over to the railway police.

However, another disturbing episode awaited them at NJP railway station, where around 50 railway police personnel surrounded the five female students who had accused the police constable. These railway police officers attempted to take them into custody, accusing the students of illegally detaining the constable.

After a tense standoff, the railway police officials eventually acceded to the students’ complaints and filed a report against the accused police constable at the NJP Railway Police Station. Subsequently, the students are said to be preparing for their journey to Guwahati on the Rajdhani Express.

Meanwhile, the principal of Biswanath College, Dr. Chintamani Sharma, has demanded strict action against the perpetrator in this deeply troubling case. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing such crimes promptly and effectively to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers, especially young women.
