Guwahati, Jan 30: Assam cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika has indicated that several more leaders are poised to exit the Congress on February 5. This statement follows the recent defection of former Assam Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta and former Congress MLA Bismita Gogoi to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Hazarika emphasized that this trend of leaders leaving the Congress will continue, with more departures anticipated on February 5. He expressed optimism about significant leaders and party workers defecting from Congress that day, suggesting a sustained wave of defections.

The minister highlighted the growing support for the BJP, attributing it to the effective governance of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Hazarika pointed out that the people’s favor toward the BJP is compelling leaders from opposition parties, including the Congress, to join the BJP. He predicted that this trend would persist and gain momentum.

The BJP received a boost ahead of the Lok Sabha elections as Angkita Dutta, Bismita Gogoi, former AASU president Dipanka Nath, and former AASU vice-president Prakash Das joined the party.

Additionally, former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kamal Kumar Medhi is expected to join the BJP.

Hazarika’s statement suggests a strategic move by the BJP to attract leaders from other political parties, particularly the Congress, as part of its election preparation.

The date, February 5, is anticipated as a key day for more defections from the Congress to the BJP.
