Guwahati, Feb 17: Suspended Congress leader Dadu Taye from Golaghat district in Assam launched a scathing attack on Kaliabar MP Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of lacking Ahom blood but having Miya blood.

Taye, who faced suspension for meeting Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, criticized Gogoi during a press conference, alleging that Gogoi orchestrated his suspension and questioned Gogoi’s political lineage.

Accusing Gogoi of planning to contest from Nagaon instead of Kaziranga, Taye’s remarks reflect growing tensions within the Assam Congress, particularly concerning potential electoral strategies and candidate selection.

Taye’s criticisms extended beyond Gogoi, targeting the party’s decisions regarding ticket allocations, notably the nomination of Roselina Tirkey for the Kaziranga seat despite her past interactions with BJP leaders.

Asserting his defiance, Taye proclaimed his willingness to meet the Chief Minister repeatedly if it’s considered a crime, while also highlighting the alleged exodus of Congress leaders to the ruling party.

The rift within the Assam Congress is further evident with MLAs like Kamalakhya Dey Purkayasstha and Basanta Das openly supporting CM Sarma, indicating broader discontent within the party ranks.

Amidst these internal conflicts, the Congress faces challenges with several leaders defecting to the BJP, including former Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta and ex-MLA Bismita Gogoi, who criticized the party leadership, including Rahul Gandhi.

Speculation about Pradyut Bordoloi’s potential replacement by Gaurav Gogoi and Purkayastha’s support for the Assam Chief Minister exacerbate the Congress’s predicament, suggesting further defections to the BJP in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.
