Imphal, Feb 17: The situation in violence-stricken Manipur has escalated over the past 24 hours, marked by sporadic gunfire. Extensive search operations yielded a significant cache of arms and ammunition.

On February 15, operations in vulnerable areas like Koubru ridge near Boljang, Kangpokpi district, resulted in the seizure of one SLR with a magazine, a 9mm pistol, 2 hand grenades, and 10 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.

Furthermore, in the general area of North Changoubung, Kangpokpi district, security forces recovered a carbine machine gun, an SLR magazine, a hand grenade, a wood-piercing shell, and a locally-made pumpi.

In the Haijang forest area, Churachandpur district, authorities discovered three single-barrel country-made rifles, a tear gas launcher, an ammunition box with rubber bullets, an AK-47 with a magazine and live rounds, and four 9mm pistols with ammunition.

Amidst efforts to quell violent mobs targeting government properties in Churachandpur, security forces employed legal force. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives, and 14 sustained injuries. Additionally, two security personnel were wounded in the altercation.

Flag marches were conducted in Churachandpur town by security forces to deter further unrest and maintain order.
