Gangtok, Feb 17: Sikkim Governor, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, alongside Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Union Minister BL Verma, initiated the construction of a Buddha statue at Raj Bhavan as part of the ‘Hamro Sankalp: Viksit Bharat Pushpit Sikkim’ initiative on February 16, 2024.

The Governor stressed the global significance of Lord Buddha’s teachings and the symbolic value of the statue at Raj Bhavan. Monks and pandits offered prayers for universal peace and the smooth completion of the statue’s construction.

In addition to laying the foundation stone, the Governor inaugurated a Sikkimese zen garden and released balloons. The event saw the participation of various dignitaries, including the Chief Minister and the Union Minister of State for DoNER.

During his visit, the Governor toured a flower show, participated in prayers at the Raj Bhavan temple, and explored the library and bonsai exhibition. He commended Sikkim’s motto, “Sikkim, where nature smiles,” emphasizing the people’s actions in line with this ethos.

Addressing the audience, the Governor emphasized the importance of the ‘Hamro Sankalp: Viksit Bharat Pushpit Sikkim’ initiative in shaping a prosperous future. He highlighted the collective responsibility of citizens and the crucial role of youth in achieving Bharat’s development by 2047.

The Governor praised India’s resilience in overcoming challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and applauded initiatives like “vocal for local” for contributing to the nation’s progress.

Highlighting Sikkim’s unique attributes, the Governor urged everyone to contribute to Viksit Bharat @2047 as a united family. Minister BL Verma expressed gratitude for the warmth received from the people of Sikkim, emphasizing the North East’s significance in the nation’s development journey.

He praised Sikkim for being India’s first organic state and celebrated the region’s rich culture. Cultural performances and a demonstration of organic farming practices showcased the region’s vibrancy.

The Governor’s distribution of sewing machines to the Self Help Group (SHG) of Ben Phangyong underscored the commitment to grassroots empowerment. The event concluded with a pledge to contribute to Bharat’s development by 2047.
