BJP States

New Delhi, Dec 04: With the recent triumph in the assembly elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has significantly expanded its political footprint, now governing 12 out of India’s 28 states. In contrast, the Indian National Congress finds itself in power in only three states – Telangana, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh.

Moreover, the BJP is part of ruling coalitions in four states, namely Maharashtra, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Meghalaya.

Analyzing data from 2014, the year Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office, until December 3, 2023, reveals the BJP’s remarkable growth across India’s political landscape.

As of December 2023, areas governed by the BJP cover 58% of India’s landmass and house 57% of the population. On the other hand, states under Congress rule constitute 41% of the country’s land area and accommodate 43% of the population.

The BJP’s evolving political map, coupled with its recent victories in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, sets the stage for the 2024 General Elections.

Prime Minister Modi, celebrating the party’s “hat-trick” in state elections, confidently asserted that it paves the way for a similar triumph in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He interpreted the electoral outcome as an endorsement of his agenda for a self-reliant India, emphasizing good governance and transparency.
