Gangtok, June 16: Flash floods caused by heavy rains have wreaked havoc in North Sikkim, leading to the submergence of National Highway 10 at Pegong.
The flash flood, which occurred on Thursday night, has resulted in the isolation of areas such as Lachen and Lachung from the rest of the state. The torrential downpour has caused significant damage to the highway and rendered it unsafe for vehicular movement.

In addition to the flash flood, landslides at 13th mile and Thulo Khola, Rail Khola along the JN Road of the Gangtok-Nathula route have also blocked the road.
To ensure the safety of tourists and residents, all tourist permits for popular destinations such as Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir, Nathula, and North Sikkim have been canceled until further notice. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as the situation develops.
