Imphal, Feb 07: Fresh violence erupted in Imphal East, Manipur, on February 7 following an attack by armed miscreants at Itham Moirang Purel village.

This incident comes in the wake of a similar attack the previous day in Tumukhong village, also in Imphal East district.

The armed assailants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, launched an assault on Itham Moirang Purel village at around 3:10 am.

Their target reportedly included village defense volunteers and security forces. Security personnel retaliated, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported from the incident.

Sources indicate that the armed group descended from the hills of Molham Kuki Village toward a sand mining area situated between Nongdam Tangkhul and Tumukhong Meetei villages during the attack on February 6.

The attackers indiscriminately fired at individuals involved in mining operations, endangering the lives of innocent sand miners.
