Imphal, Aug 30: Tragic developments continue to unfold in Manipur as fresh violence erupted in the Khoirentak village, claiming the life of one individual. The incident occurred when unidentified assailants attacked Kuki-Zo village at approximately 10 a.m.
In response to the attack, village volunteers retaliated, resulting in heavy gunfire. Tragically, 30-year-old Jangminlun Gangte lost his life during the violent confrontation.
Additionally, local authorities reported that four militants associated with various outfits were apprehended in separate operations, and a significant cache of arms and ammunition was seized during these arrests.

The four militants have been identified as follows: one insurgent from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN(IM)], one from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), and two overground workers affiliated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (Lamyanba Khuman faction). They were detained from different areas in Imphal East and Bishnupur districts.
Security forces have initiated search operations in the peripheries and vulnerable zones of the five valley districts as a proactive measure.
In a separate incident on Sunday, August 27, unidentified individuals set fire to three abandoned houses in the New Lambulane locality, located in Imphal, the capital of Manipur. Prompt response from firefighters helped extinguish the blaze and prevent further damage.
Furthermore, during the same night, unidentified culprits seized three weapons from security personnel guarding the residence of the former director of health and family welfare, K Rajo.
These incidents of violence and unrest add to the grim toll that Manipur has endured since May 3 when ethnic clashes first erupted in the region. To date, more than 160 lives have been lost, and hundreds of individuals have sustained injuries as a result of these ongoing conflicts.
