New Delhi, April 04: Gourav Vallabh, the former national spokesperson for the Congress party, made headlines on Thursday as he swiftly joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) mere hours after tendering his resignation from the Congress, citing a lack of direction within the party.

Joined by former Bihar Congress president Anil Sharma, Vallabh announced his decision to join the BJP in a media address alongside the BJP’s national general secretary, Vinod Tawde, in Delhi.

Expressing his grievances and rationale behind the move, Vallabh emphasized key issues such as the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the stance on wealth creators, and concerns regarding the party’s response to questions on Sanatana principles.

In his address, Vallabh highlighted his longstanding belief in the construction of the Ram temple and his dissatisfaction with Congress’s handling of the matter. He also criticized the party’s approach towards wealth creators, stating that generating wealth should not be considered a crime.

In his resignation letter addressed to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Vallabh criticized the party’s direction, particularly its stance on issues like the caste census and Sanatana principles.

He expressed discomfort with raising “anti-Sanatana” slogans and denounced the vilification of wealth creators.

Vallabh, known for his advocacy on economic matters, had previously played a significant role in Mallikarjun Kharge’s Congress president campaign.

Despite his contributions, Vallabh faced electoral setbacks, notably in the Rajasthan assembly election of 2023, where he contested from the Udaipur constituency but lost to the BJP candidate by a considerable margin.

His political journey began in 2019 when he contested the Jamshedpur East assembly seat in Jharkhand, securing a third-place finish behind prominent contenders Raghubar Das and Saryu Roy.

Vallabh’s swift transition to the BJP underscores the shifting political landscape and highlights the challenges facing the Congress party in retaining key leaders amidst ideological differences and strategic realignments.
