Ambubachi

Guwahati, June 22: As the Ambubachi Mela begins, thousands of pilgrims from different parts of India observe this holy occasion. However, the significant congregation of people has led to overcrowding within the temple premises, thereby posing challenges in terms of accommodation provisions.

The Kamakhya temple attracts thousands of pilgrims from all corners of India, many from impoverished backgrounds. Recognising the financial constraints faced by pilgrims hailing from the financially weaker section, the Assam government has stepped in to offer assistance in terms of accommodation.

To accommodate the influx of pilgrims, the Pandu port camp, with its capacity to house up to 15,000 individuals, has been transformed into a shelter. However, despite these efforts, some visitors are still compelled to seek lodging near the temple or even on the streets due to the limited capacity at the Pandu Port camp.

In response to this predicament, the authorities have established a temporary camp at Bhootnath temple, which is conveniently situated in proximity to the Ambubachi Mela grounds. While the Pandu Port facilities boast hygienic food, proper sanitation facilities, and bathing amenities, the shortage of space has presented certain challenges.

By setting up the temporary camp at Bhootnath temple, the government aims to alleviate the strain on existing resources and provide a suitable place for those who were unable to secure a spot at the Pandu Port camp. This additional facility is to offer a safe and comfortable environment for pilgrims to rest and rejuvenate during their spiritual journey.

Due to the challenges posed by the limited capacity at the Pandu Port, efforts are being made to enhance the infrastructure and increase the accommodation capacity to ensure that every pilgrim can find a place to stay during this significant event.

As the Ambubachi Mela continues to attract devotees and tourists, the Assam government focuses on addressing the needs of those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Ambubachi Mela, held annually, captivates the hearts of thousands of pilgrims who journey from all corners of the country to participate in this cherished religious gathering. With its rich spiritual significance, the Mela serves as a focal point for devotees seeking blessings and spiritual rejuvenation.

During the Mela, the entire temple springs to life, radiating an energy that is unique to this sacred occasion. The ambiance is electrifying, as the chants of hymns, the aroma of incense, and the colorful rituals permeate the surroundings. The temple complex becomes a hub of activity, hosting various ceremonies, cultural performances, and religious discourses.
