Gangtok, June 25: The Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army organized a motorcycle expedition across North Bengal and Sikkim from June 18 to 24.
The expedition featured women riders from Iron Horrses Academy, New Delhi, emphasizing women’s empowerment and honoring Indian Army heroes at War Memorials.
Additionally, the expedition aimed to promote tourism in the border regions of North Bengal and Sikkim. Highlights included a journey to the scenic hills of Sikkim, visiting Nathu La and New Baba Mandir, and a tribute ceremony at the Ganju Lama War Memorial.
The expedition concluded in Gangtok, where participants interacted with Girls NCC cadets of the 3 NCC Battalion over tea. It showcased East Sikkim’s challenging terrains, emphasizing adventure and camaraderie.
Continuing into North Bengal’s Dooars, the riders reached the Indo-Bhutan border, engaging with local women and NCC girl cadets. They paid respects at the Damdim War Memorial and conducted a ‘Safe Riding of Two Wheelers’ workshop. The expedition culminated at Sukna on June 24.
The initiative underscores the women riders’ role in breaking barriers and fostering inclusivity.
Meanwhile, the Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army, alongside border security duties, strives to empower women, particularly young girls in border areas.
