Guwahati, June 25: The flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement as major rivers receded with reduced rainfall, lowering the number of affected individuals to 1.7 lakh, according to the latest reports.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) indicated that 1,70,377 people are currently impacted by floods across Bajali, Barpeta, Cachar, Darrang, Goalpara, Kamrup, Karimganj, Nagaon, and Hojai districts.
Earlier, over two lakh people were affected across these districts on Sunday. The toll from floods, landslides, and storms this year has reached 40, including one drowning incident in Cachar on Monday.

Karimganj remains the most severely affected district with 96,440 people affected, followed by Cachar with over 52,400 and Darrang with nearly 10,802.
Although the Kushiara River in Karimganj was flowing above the danger mark, other major rivers and tributaries have shown receding levels due to decreased rainfall in the past two days.
Currently, 13,094 people are sheltering in 149 relief camps in the affected districts. Approximately 641 villages are inundated, and flooding has damaged 2,273.44 hectares of crop area statewide.
Floodwaters have also caused damage to dams, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in most affected districts.
