Agartala, Oct 07: In a significant verdict that underscores the commitment of the Indian justice system to protect its most vulnerable citizens, a court in Kailashahar of Unakoti district in Tripura, has pronounced a 20-year rigorous imprisonment sentence for a man found guilty of raping a minor. This tragic incident shook the local community and led to a thorough legal proceeding aimed at delivering justice.

The case, which has been closely followed by both local and national media, involved a horrifying crime that occurred on March 14, 2021. On that fateful day, a young girl from Chantail Village Panchayat, Kailashahar, went to a neighboring house to run some errands, expecting nothing but a routine visit. Little did she know that her life was about to take a traumatic and harrowing turn.

Inside the confines of the neighboring house, the victim, a minor, was lured and subjected to a brutal rape by a man named Mohammad Ali. The shocking nature of this heinous act was compounded by the presence of the victim’s own brother, who inadvertently became a witness to the crime. This disturbing incident prompted the victim’s family to take immediate action, seeking justice for their beloved daughter and sister.

The victim’s family wasted no time and promptly filed a case at the Kailashahar Women’s Police Station against six individuals, all of whom were subsequently charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Law enforcement agencies responded swiftly to apprehend the prime accused, Mohammad Ali, within a mere three days of the incident, reinforcing their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of their citizens.

The case was presided over by Justice Amarendra Kumar Singh, who served as the presiding judge in the Kailashahar Special Court. The legal proceedings were characterized by the meticulous gathering of evidence and a thorough examination of the facts surrounding the case.
