Imphal, Oct 06: United Nations Human Rights organization has expressed serious concerns over the recent vandalism of activist Babloo Loitongbam’s residence in Manipur. The UN Human Rights has squarely placed the blame on local groups, Meitei Leepun and Arambai Tengol, for the attack.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the UN Human Rights said, “We are alarmed by threats to human rights defender Babloo Loitongbam by Meitei Leepun & Arambai Tengol groups in Manipur for speaking out on inter-communal violence since May. We urge authorities to protect him, his family & home, & hold perpetrators accountable.”

The incident occurred on October 5 when unidentified individuals reportedly stormed the residence of Babloo Loitongbam, who is the director of Human Rights Alert. The residence is situated in Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai, located in the Imphal West district.

According to reliable sources, a group of 30-40 unidentified individuals arrived at the residence at around 6:30 pm. During their visit, they vandalized various household items, including a car, chairs, and window panes.

Local law enforcement agencies, including the Lamphel Police Station and Imphal West district Police personnel, quickly responded to the incident and implemented necessary security measures.

The attack on Babloo Loitongbam’s residence has raised concerns over the safety of human rights defenders and activists in Manipur. The UN Human Rights’ condemnation of the incident highlights the need for authorities to take decisive action to protect individuals like Babloo Loitongbam and ensure their safety and security.
