1. Refugees from Myanmar in Kamjong District, Manipur are barred from business, trade, or labor.

Imphal, March 07: The Executive Magistrate of Kamjong District in Manipur has issued a notice prohibiting refugees from Myanmar residing in the area from engaging in any business, trade, or labor work.

The notice mandates that all refugees within the Kamjong Sub-Division must remain within designated refugee camps and refrain from participating in any form of economic activity.

Furthermore, refugees are explicitly barred from working as laborers or helpers in any capacity under this order, with violations subject to prosecution according to relevant laws.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh reported to the assembly that 6,746 illegal Myanmarese nationals were detected in the state from May 3, 2023, to February 27 this year.

Among them, 259 individuals were repatriated to Myanmar following biometric data collection, while the remainder are housed in temporary shelters to prevent mingling with the general public.

To address the issue, a reconciliation team chaired by D Gangmei of the Hill Areas Committee has been formed to engage in dialogue with MLAs who were absent from the session.
