Imphal, Aug 25: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their guidance in restoring peace in the state. During a press briefing on Thursday, he emphasized that following their advice had contributed to the return of peace in Manipur.

“We take his advice all the time. After listening to PM Modi’s and Amit Shah’s statements in the Parliament, there is peace in Manipur. This is routine work for the rehabilitation and settlement of displaced people. We are here to take the advice of the Home Minister,” Biren Singh stated while addressing reporters.

The Chief Minister’s comments come in response to recent remarks by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the situation in Manipur. Biren Singh questioned why Rahul Gandhi, who was in Ladakh at the time, was commenting on Manipur. He urged Gandhi to focus on Ladakh-related issues while emphasizing that the current situation in Manipur was a result of previous Congress actions.

“How did Rahul Gandhi think of Manipur while being in Ladakh? Speak of Ladakh if you are going to Ladakh. What is happening in Manipur today was all created by Congress. Politics should not be done over human lives,” he emphasized.

Prime Minister Modi, during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, made an appeal for peace in Manipur, expressing solidarity with the people of the Northeastern state. He stressed that peace was the only way to resolve disputes and that both the Central government and the Manipur state government were committed to ensuring the earliest possible return of peace.

Manipur had experienced unrest for the past four months, beginning on May 3. The conflict erupted following ethnic clashes between two tribal communities, the Meitis and the Kukis, when the Manipur High Court recommended that the state government consider adding one of the communities to the list of Scheduled Tribes. The situation has since been a matter of concern, and efforts to restore peace have been ongoing.

The Manipur Chief Minister’s acknowledgment of the central leadership’s guidance reflects the commitment of both the state and central governments to resolving the ongoing issues and bringing stability to the region. Peace and reconciliation remain a priority, and the involvement of key leaders is essential in achieving these goals.
