Jai Bharat Satyagraha

Shillong, March 30: The opposition Congress in Meghalaya has launched a protest campaign called ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ to protest against the disqualification of its leader Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha. The campaign began on Wednesday and is expected to continue until April 8th.

According to AICC media coordinator Bobbeeta Sharma, the campaign will involve a series of street corner meetings to raise awareness about the issue. The Congress has vowed to do everything in its power to save the democracy of the country, alleging that the BJP-led government at the Centre is “willing to destroy democracy”.

Rahul Gandhi, who represents the Wayanad parliamentary constituency in Kerala, was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on March 24th, a day after his conviction in a defamation case by a court in Surat, Gujarat.

The opposition parties have been demanding a joint parliamentary committee probe or a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the allegations of fraud and manipulation made by Hindenburg Research against Adani’s companies that triggered an unprecedented stock crash.

The Congress leader alleged that Rahul Gandhi has been targeted because he raised questions about the Adani group to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Congress has been accusing the BJP of favoring Adani and his companies, and the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi is seen as an attempt to silence the opposition’s voice against the government’s alleged bias towards big corporations.

The ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ campaign is expected to galvanize the Congress supporters in Meghalaya and other parts of the country.

The Congress has been facing tough times lately, with a series of electoral defeats and internal rifts. The party is hoping that the campaign will help it regain its lost ground and boost its morale ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections.

The disqualification of Rahul Gandhi has also raised concerns about the state of democracy in the country. The opposition parties have been alleging that the BJP is trying to silence dissenting voices and suppress opposition parties through undemocratic means.

The disqualification of Rahul Gandhi is seen as another example of the government’s alleged authoritarian tendencies and disregard for democratic values. The ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ campaign is expected to add to the growing chorus of voices demanding accountability and transparency from the government.
