New Delhi, April 01: Former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram aimed External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar over the Katchatheevu island dispute, highlighting the swift change in positions.

Chidambaram’s remarks, shared on social media, emphasized the evolving landscape of political discourse.

The ongoing row over Katchatheevu island intensified following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks criticizing the Congress for ceding the strategic island to Sri Lanka in the 1970s. Chidambaram’s response to Jaishankar’s comments underscored the political tensions surrounding the issue.

Chidambaram referred to an RTI reply from 2015 during Jaishankar’s tenure as Foreign Minister, questioning the shift in stance. He pointed out the previous justification for acknowledging Sri Lanka’s sovereignty over the island, challenging the current narrative.

Expanding his critique, Chidambaram portrayed Jaishankar’s political journey from a “suave liberal foreign service officer” to a “mouthpiece of the RSS-BJP”. The Congress leader’s tweet reflected the changing dynamics within the political landscape and Jaishankar’s evolving role.
