New Delhi, April 01: The Election Commission of India has censured BJP MP Dilip Ghosh and Congress leader Supriya Shrinate for their derogatory remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut.

Following their responses to notices regarding alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), the Commission issued a stern rebuke to Ghosh and Shrinate for their disparaging comments.

In its order, the Commission highlighted that both Ghosh and Shrinate made personal attacks, violating the provisions of the MCC. They have been warned to exercise caution in their public statements during the election period.

The MCC, designed to ensure fair elections, prohibits any speech or action that may incite hatred or promote enmity between different groups, or that is derogatory to women.

Moving forward, the Election Commission will closely monitor their election-related communications.

Warning notices were also sent to BJP national president JP Nadda and his Congress counterpart Mallikarjun Kharge, urging them to sensitize their party members to adhere to the poll code during public communications.

A major controversy erupted when objectionable comments against Kangana Ranaut were posted on Shrinate’s social media accounts.

Ranaut is BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh.

Shrinate removed the posts, asserting that they were not made by her but by someone with access to her accounts.

Ghosh faced backlash after a video surfaced showing him mocking Mamata Banerjee’s family background. He later apologized for his contentious remarks against the West Bengal Chief Minister.
