Modi growth

New Delhi, Sept 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the Assam government’s extensive plantation initiative, highlighting its potential to contribute to India’s goal of clean and green growth, as well as its long-term benefits for environmental preservation and public health.

In a letter to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding Assam’s ‘Amrit Brikshya Andolan’ (Million Tree Campaign), PM Modi commended the idea of planting one crore saplings (ten million) across the state.

Modi emphasized the cultural and literary significance of trees and forests in India’s heritage, citing Sanskrit verses that describe how trees purify the air and combat diseases.

He noted that India’s development model has harmonized ‘prakriti’ (nature) and ‘pragati’ (development), making it one of the few major nations to meet its climate commitments while achieving rapid economic growth.

Modi stated that initiatives like this plantation drive will further strengthen India’s mission for clean and sustainable growth and have lasting benefits for environmental protection and public health.

Assam’s rich biodiversity and diverse ecosystems make it an ideal location for such an endeavor. Planting saplings on private and community-owned lands will significantly increase the state’s green cover.

The Prime Minister emphasized the involvement of local communities in the campaign, promoting ‘Jan Bhagidari’ (people’s participation) and fostering a sense of ownership and environmental stewardship among the populace.

Assam’s government aims to plant one crore saplings throughout the state, with the additional goal of setting nine world records in various categories related to the initiative.
