Guwahati, April 13: On April 14, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Assam to inaugurate and dedicate several developmental projects to the nation. During his visit, he marked his attendance at the Guinness World Records Bihu dance performance attempt by over 10,000 artists.
This mega Bihu display aimed to showcase the folk dance of Assam as a mascot of cultural identity and of the state, which was a Guinness World Record attempt in the folk dance category in a single venue.
PM Modi first visited the AIIMS Guwahati campus to inspect its newly built campus and subsequently dedicated it to the public. AIIMS Guwahati, built at a cost of more than ₹1,120 crores, is a state-of-the-art hospital with a capacity of 750 beds, including 30 AYUSH beds.
This hospital will have an annual intake capacity of 100 MBBS students annually. In addition to AIIMS, he also dedicated three other medical colleges – Nalbari, Nagaon, and Kokrajhar — to the nation.

After his program at AIIMS Guwahati, PM Modi attended an event marking the platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Guwahati High Court to be held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.
The Gauhati High Court was established in 1948 and it served as the common court for the seven north-eastern states of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh until March 2013, when separate High Courts for the States of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura were created.
PM Modi then reached Sarusajai Stadium and witnessed a colorful Bihu program performed by more than ten thousand Bihu performers. The Bihu festival is the most significant festival of Assam, and it is celebrated three times a year. During Bihu, Assam comes alive with vibrant colors, music, dance, and food.
The Prime Minister commissioned a 500 TPD Menthol Plant in Namrup and laid the foundation stone for the bridge on the Brahmaputra River connecting Palashbari and Sualkuchi. He also laid the foundation stone for the beautification of the amphitheater Rang Ghar in Sivasagar and dedicated five railway projects to the nation.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Assam highlighted the government’s efforts to promote development and infrastructure in the region. These projects will boost the healthcare sector, transportation, and cultural heritage of Assam.
PM Modi’s attendance at the Guinness World Records Bihu dance performance attempt is a testament to the cultural significance of the festival in Assam. Overall, the Prime Minister’s visit was a significant event for the people of Assam and a step towards the region’s overall development.
