Imphal, Jan 02: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the recent outbreak of violence in Manipur’s Thoubal district, which resulted in four deaths.

Priyanka Gandhi criticized the Prime Minister for not visiting the troubled state and urged the government to take concrete steps to restore stability and peace by engaging with all stakeholders in Manipur.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi expressed concern over the continuous violence in Manipur, emphasizing that the people of the state have been facing murder, violence, and destruction for eight months.

She highlighted that a joint delegation of leaders from all parties in Manipur had sought time to meet the Prime Minister in Delhi but had not received a response.

Priyanka Gandhi questioned whether the leadership provided by the Prime Minister, who had not visited Manipur or addressed the issues in Parliament, was what Manipur needed.

She emphasized the need for the government to initiate prompt and tangible actions to establish stability and peace by engaging with all stakeholders in Manipur.

The violence in Manipur’s Thoubal district occurred when armed miscreants, wearing police uniforms and traveling in four vehicles, opened fire on people in Lilong Chingjao.

The incident resulted in four deaths and left fourteen others injured, with many in critical condition. Subsequent commotion led to two of the perpetrators’ vehicles being set on fire by an angry mob.

In response to the situation, an indefinite curfew was imposed in all Valley districts, and additional forces were deployed to sensitive areas to prevent further trouble.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh appealed for peace, urging citizens not to take the law into their own hands and assuring that the perpetrators would be apprehended soon.
