Aizawl, Nov 07: Goods worth more than Rs 210 crore have been seized during the ongoing Mizoram election campaign, according to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Madhup Vyas. Vyas highlighted the effective coordination between Mizoram Police, the Mizoram Excise Department, and central agencies such as the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and Customs, which contributed to these significant seizures.

Speaking to the media, Vyas stated that this coordinated effort has led to the seizure of goods valued at over Rs 210 crore from July 1 until the present date. When focusing on the period since the election announcement on October 9, seizures amounting to more than Rs 40 crores have been made.

The breakdown of seizures includes approximately Rs 20 crores worth of heroin and around Rs 9 crores worth of cigarettes. Vyas credited this success to the seamless coordination between Mizoram Police and central agencies.

This joint effort has contributed to maintaining the integrity of the election process in Mizoram. The close cooperation between Mizoram Police and various central agencies has helped enforce election rules and prevent illegal activities.

Mizoram is all set for its Assembly elections, scheduled to take place on November 7. Over 8.52 lakh voters, comprising 4,13,064 males and 4,39,028 females, will cast their votes in 1,276 polling stations. A total of 174 candidates are vying for 40 Assembly seats, and the voters will play a crucial role in shaping the state’s political landscape.
