Gangtok, April 04: Amidst escalating tensions in Sikkim’s political arena, G M Gurung, Vice President of the SKM party, rebuffed derogatory remarks made by BJP’s Dr. Dilip Jaiswal against Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

Gurung condemned Jaiswal’s comments, asserting the need to uphold the dignity and authority of Sikkim’s elected leader. He emphasized the importance of respecting the state’s sovereignty and warned against further disparagement of the Chief Minister.

Highlighting Sikkim’s cultural significance, Gurung urged the central government to exhibit respect and affection towards the state, cautioning that such behavior would not be tolerated in Sikkim.

Asserting the distinct identity of Sikkim, Gurung reminded that the state’s values differ from those of Bihar or Bengal, emphasizing intolerance towards external interference.

Additionally, Gurung cautioned that BJP’s electoral prospects in Sikkim could suffer if derogatory remarks against the Chief Minister persist, potentially impacting the party’s traction in the upcoming elections.

Earlier, Jaiswal’s warning to the CM, coupled with allegations of corruption, had stirred controversy, creating a tumultuous political environment in Sikkim.

The tensions escalated further as Jaiswal hinted at potential alliances and speculated about Tamang’s future legal troubles, invoking uncertainty in the state’s political landscape.
