New Delhi, May 03: The Supreme Court suggested interim bail for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Kejriwal is currently in judicial custody in the liquor policy case.
During the hearing, the bench, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, discussed Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Delhi liquor policy case. The court indicated that it would consider interim bail but deferred a decision to May 7.
“We must be open so that neither side is taken by surprise,” remarked the bench during the proceedings.
The court also questioned whether Kejriwal, who has been in Tihar Jail since April 1, could still sign official files. The ED was given until May 3 to respond to concerns about the timing of Kejriwal’s arrest, just before the general elections.
Justice Khanna emphasized the importance of liberty, particularly noting the timing of Kejriwal’s arrest before the elections.

Additionally, the court asked the ED to explain the time gap between initiating proceedings and filing repeated complaints.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to the now-revoked Delhi liquor policy. He is slated to remain in judicial custody until May 7.
The Delhi High Court previously ruled that there were no irregularities in Kejriwal’s arrest on April 9.
